Nairobi: a journey of discovery

Learning expeditions provide students with enriching experiences, offering a unique opportunity to discover a different culture, learn new things and create unforgettable memories, all over the world. Last February, Digital College students had the chance to travel to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, for an unforgettable learning experience. Here's a look back at the week's events.

Nairobi: The pearl of East Africa

Nairobi is a dynamic and exciting city, known for its vibrant lifestyle and rich cultural heritage. In fact, the continent’s two largest mountains, Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, are visible from the city. Over the course of several days, the students discovered the key players on the tech and digital scene in Kenya’s economic, political and administrative center.

Nairobi : A memorable trip for our students

After several hours’ travel, the students met up at the hotel for a first night of meetings and exchanges.

Day 1

The very next day, on their first day in Nairobi, Digital College students visited the University of Nairobi, one of Africa’s largest and most prestigious universities. In the afternoon, they attended a fascinating conference with William Kalibo Chesoni, Community Manager at iHub, an organization supporting technology entrepreneurs.

Day 2

On the second day, the students attended two conferences with key figures from the world of entrepreneurship in Nairobi. The first was with Paul Kimani, founder and CEO of Workplay, a company specializing in human resources solutions.

The second with Brian Wamiori and Francis Waithaka, founders of Digital4 Africa, an organization promoting digital innovation in Africa. The students were able to exchange views with these professionals and discover their backgrounds and visions

Day 3

On the third day, the students attended two conferences focusing on virtual reality, a rapidly expanding field in Africa. The first with Brian Afande, co-founder and managing director of Black Rhino VR, a company specializing in VR content production; the second with Njeri Ndonga, founder and team leader at Ukwenza VR, a company specializing in the design of VR projects for education and training. The students were able to discover the applications of virtual reality in Africa and exchange views with industry professionals.

Day 4

The fourth day was a free day for the students, who were able to explore the city at their leisure and discover Nairobi’s cultural and tourist riches. It was an opportunity for them to discover Kenyan culture, through the Nairobi National Museum for example. They also discovered local culture and culinary specialties, visiting one of the city’s traditional markets.

Day 5

To round off their trip in style, the students had the chance to go on safari in Nairobi National Park. Created in 1946, this park is one of the first in Kenya and is home to a nature reserve located just a few kilometers from the city.

In the park you can see the 4 species that make up the Big Five: lion, rhinoceros, buffalo and leopard. Thanks to this Safari (j,n meaning journey in Swahili), the students were able to observe almost 100 species of mammals present in the reserve.

The learning expedition in Nairobi was an unforgettable experience for the Digital College students. Not only did they acquire personal and professional skills, but they also had the chance to discover a new culture and create indelible memories.

So if you too dream of adventure and discovery, we’re taking you on board with us to relive this trip in pictures! It’s right here :
